Hello Friends, Can some of the friends in sajha share some knowledge regarding investing in US besides opening a CD or Savings account? I’ve been thinking about buying gold but doesn’t look like the local jewelry stores sell them in the market price. I also thought about buying stocks using discount brokers such as etrade but that seems like requires a lot of time researching which I don’t have. I don’t know how much a full service brokerage firm charges when I’m only trying to invest like 5-6K and would hate to lose my money on their fees and commissions. Thanks!

Rather than GOLD , i recommend investing in ETFs!! (as in my opinion GOLD price is kinda inflated now)
If GOLD is must , then like MECH said invest in GLD (i.e buy the share)!! (you'll own real gold that is stored in Bank in UK though, managed by HSBC as far as i remember) [do more research]

After you are done, then come back with Doubts and Queries, Investment is such a Field, if you don' t have GOOD FOUNDATION you are bound to lose money (either duped or stupidity)!!
I highly encourage you to READ FIRST......I am sure other folks out here are ready to help you, but as for me if you come with some basic knowledge it'll be fruitful for both of us.
