Alson,
When he comes back ask him to take his passport with valid visa along with 2 letter mailed to his permanant address under his name for address verificaion.i.e add your dad into ur bank account and utility as well, along with his old driver's license ( they may require proof of insurence but you can tell them he just want to renew his license) and social security card (is must) he should not have any problem.

Thats why I asked him to add his dad into his bank account and utility bill, If you remember when you walk into DMV they will NOT ask you when it was expired. They only require 2 piece of mail and a social security. well...if he has his license and left the country legally and comes back legally there is noting we can do. Its not we are violating immigration law...

It is not a big deal. My father had a similar issue but was able to renew by just filling out the regular renewal form. So, i would assume, as long as your father isn't out of status, this shouldn't be a problem.

good luck
