I don't recommend any Acer. a lot of hardware troubles.

Many of my coleagues use Acer (mine is TravelMate 4202WLMI core duo T2300), I am the only lucky person in my office whose Acer has not faced problem yet. Rest all have faced hardware problems several times. Battery, power adapter malfunctioning, screen blinkering, touch pad failure, keyboard problem etc.

No 1.but battery is the only problem.battery is weak and lasts hardly for an hour. Rest is fine.

Thanx a lot for your response guys. In other words, where can I find a laptop under $700. The use is limited to internet and some general applications like word, excel etc.

Since it's going to be a Gift.... choose the cheaper one.. plain and simple. The difference in performqance for the two laptops is unnoticeable when someone received it as a GIFT.
