alien registration number means green card number because when i fill the forms for citizenship i was told to put green card no. for alien regi. no.

An alien number is a file number the USCIS assigns to certain types of cases. Most non-immigrants (ex, H-1B visa) do not have Alien Registration Numbers. All permanent residents do. The number is also referred to as the alien registration number. If assigned a number, you will need it for several transactions, including Green Card change of address, Green Card renewal, and Green Card replacement.

An Admission number is 11 digits in length and is found on the I-94 document or the I-20 form. An Alien number is 8 or 9 digits in length, begins with the letter "A" and is on an I-551 document and on Employment Authorizations documents (I-688B, I-766, etc.).
